Why Filaform

Tested where it matters.

Not in a lab that proves what we hoped, but in the production environment that created the problem in the first place.

A filament can pass every specification on a datasheet and still be unusable. What matters is whether it behaves the same way on the four-hundredth hour as it did on the first, and whether the spool you buy next month behaves like the one you bought last month.

That is a harder question than a tensile test answers, and it is the reason Filaform is tested in continuous production rather than only on a bench.

We did not have to build that test environment. We already had it. Filaform exists because our own print farm could not reliably buy filament good enough to run unattended, so we developed our own. The farm is still running, and it is still where every Filaform material has to earn its place.

The test bench

The environment that found the problem signs off the fix.

Our print farm runs from Reservoir, in Melbourne's north. It is not a demonstration rig. It is the working operation Filaform was created to supply, and it is hard to please: long jobs, repeat jobs, and no one standing next to the printer.

Before a material carries the Filaform name, it runs there. Not a sample print on a good day, but continuous production, where a weakness that would hide in a short test has hours to show itself.

What continuous production exposes

Hour one versus hour four hundred

Drift shows up over time. A spool that behaves for the first print and wanders by the twelfth can pass a bench test. It cannot pass a print farm.

Spool to spool

Consistency between spools is what lets a job run again next month with the same settings and the same result.

Nobody watching

Overnight, there is no one there to catch a failure early. The material has to be the part of the system you never think about.

On the record

Proof you can check without trusting us.

Anyone can claim rigorous testing. These three things are already public, so you do not have to take the claim on faith.

What we won't show you.

A testing page is where a company is most tempted to decorate. So here is the other half of ours: the things we refuse to publish.

No number without a source

If a value cannot be substantiated, it does not get published. There is no marketing version of a specification.

No estimated specs

Where a property has no verified figure, the product page leaves the row out rather than filling it with a plausible guess.

No odometer counters

There is no ticking total of hours or kilograms on this site. A number that only ever goes up, and that you cannot check, is decoration.

No borrowed badges

Australian Made appears only on the Adhesive Spray, the product certified to carry it. The rest of the range is an Australian brand, developed and tested here, and described exactly that way.
